How Busy Moms Can Create Balance In All Areas Of Their Life

With every new chapter in life, we will be faced with striking a balance - hopefully one that transcends all areas of our life. This can be especially hard for busy moms,  whether working full time or staying at home and managing the household. As children get older, it can be difficult to balance everyone else’s needs as well as your own.

Maybe you’re under a tight deadline with your team at the office, but you also don’t want to miss your child’s first soccer game. Or, maybe you’re so busy juggling your family’s activities that you completely disregard caring for yourself. It’s important to know that there are plenty of fellow mothers who deal with the exact same thing - you are not alone! The struggle is real, but in order to truly be our best selves, we have to strike a balance across all areas of our lives.

Below is a list of actionable steps for busy moms looking to incorporate more balance:

Finely Nourished Busy Moms

1. Dedicate Certain Days For Work & Family

Prioritizing can play a huge role when creating balance in all areas of your life. Delegate certain days of each week where you know you need to focus specifically on either work, family, etc. This way, you can focus all of your attention in the moment, and be more present when doing so.

2. Stay Positive

Sometimes when we take on new responsibilities it can be overwhelming. We get so wrapped up in whatever we’re doing that we forget the basic necessities. We must remember to just take a deep breath, remind ourselves that it’s not the end of the world, and we can do it! We shouldn’t berate ourselves or allow space for any negative self talk. As long as we take it slow, and work through it, we’re going to be just fine!

4. Shift Careers

This is a big step to take and is not meant for everyone, but this may be the right move for some of the moms out there. If your priorities are mainly your family and you feel that work is keeping you away from them, than maybe a shift in careers is in your favor. This could be anything from completely changing career paths, to cutting back on hours, or even taking a voluntary demotion. Freeing yourself from an  overwhelming amount of tasks and responsibilities may be exactly what you need!

5. Understand Sacrifice

As a mother, we make sacrifices regarding work, family, and even when it comes to caring for ourselves. Understanding and accepting that sacrifices will be part of the grand scheme, we can then refer back to our priorities and ask ourselves, “does this align with my highest priorities?” A great rule of thumb is to swap the phrase, “I don’t have time right now” for “it’s not a priority right now”. This always helps to put things in perspective!

6. Take Care of Yourself

At the end of the day, we must check in with our bodies and make sure that we are also caring for ourselves, just as much as we care for everyone else. You can’t pour into someone else’s cup if your is always empty. Be sure to put YOURSELF somewhere in the list of your top priorities. This means taking 10 minutes each morning to meditate, or literally blocking off time for a 30 minute bubble bath at some point in the week - whatever it is, it should make you feel healthy and whole!
