The History and Benefits of the Kitchari Cleanse

Kitchari means mixture, usually of two grains. Kitchari is basic to the Ayurvedic way of life. Composed of basmati rice and mung dal, it has as many variations as there are cooks who prepare it. A one-pot dish, kitchari originates on the Asian subcontinent and has references dating back thousands of years. The skillful use of spices and vegetables can produce balancing effects for the three bodily doshas. It has many qualities but being quick and easy to prepare makes it a popular dish for almost every lifestyle. - Ayurveda Institute

Kitchari is an Ayurvedic cleanse designed to reset the body

Kitchari is a type of Ayurvedic food cleanse, aimed at resetting the body internally. Ayurveda is a practice of medicine that has deep roots traced back all the way to India. It is a type of holistic healing system and Ayurvedic medicine focuses on the balance of mind, body, and spirit. Kitchari is a porridge-like dish consisting of mung beans, basmati rice, vegetables, and a mix of different herbs and spices. Kitchari has a numerous amount of benefits which include removing of toxins, restoring nutrition, and it’s easy to digest.

The Mung beans are a great source of fiber which helps remove toxins from your body. They also help get rid of any toxic build up that occurs in your intestinal lining. Not only are these beans tasty, but they are very beneficial towards your body.

The Kitchari cleanse helps slow down the rush of harmful foods in your body and restores it with nutrition. The mixture of rice and beans not only contains a great amount of protein but essential amino acids. Essential amino acids cannot be made from our bodies, so therefore we must receive them from our foods!

White rice and Mung beans are easy to digest. This dish is soft and it makes it very easy to eat. As mentioned earlier, anyone can have Kitchari. This dish is given to babies, elderly, and especially those who are sick. It’s a healthy dish and a favorite of mine, with countless benefits.

Finely Nourished will be offering a brand new Kitchari cleanse in January - perfect for kicking off the new year, resetting your body from the inside, and canceling out any crazy cravings!
