Green Living

Hey guys! So my makeup and skincare routine as you may know is very clean and non toxic to the environment, which I try to tie into my daily routine.

Eco-friendly household alternatives

  • Stasher Bags

  • Reusable grocery bags

  • Bees wax paper

  • Cloth towels, water bottles and metal straws

  • Branch basics

  • Bamboo toothbrushes

  • Eco-friendly pool

There is not one thing in my house that doesn't get reused! There are so many things you wouldn't even think could be reused… such as your shopping bags! I use my shopping bags from Trader Joes and any kind of leftover bags we have as trash bags, which helped prevent adding more waste into our landfill.

Both Enzo and Elio are onto their big boy plates! We love to use their reusable bamboo plates. Not only is it good for the environment but it makes it cute and fun for the boys to eat their meals!

Eco-friendly home and travel items

  • Stasher bags are another great way to store any food items that you want to save and even bring with you on the road! We have so many colors and sizes because we love to put them in our travel van which makes it travel. They are non-toxic, dishwasher and microwave safe that make sustainability easy!

Reusable bags, straws and beeswrap

  • We don't use foil or plastic in our house, so another option is  bee's wrap paper! Instead of using plastic wrap which gets tossed away… Beeswax wrap can be used to cover plates of food, as lids for mason jars and even just put away some berries you want to save for later! What's even more important is that it is helping prevent food waste since it helps preserve food. Beeswax paper can also be washed and reused for later! I do not recommend putting them in the dishwasher, make sure you hand wash them and air dry.

  • On top of using eco friendly items around the house we also use green environmentally friendly cleaning products. I use Branch Basics!  In order to keep things clean around the house, and as our laundry detergent that has plant and mineral based ingredients to help clean and keep our clothes nice and fresh. The great thing about this company is that it is women run and you can use it for EVERYTHING.

  • I love my Farm Fresh To You CSA box I get every week! So we eat a lot of fruits and vegetables in our house and we dont let any of it go to waste! After everything that is eaten whether it is a banana, leftover greens and even eggs… we put them in a bowl and compost them! It's just another way to show that you can recycle these items back into the earth.

Composting

  • WATER BOTTLES, all you need to do is get some kind of filter for your house and fill up your bottles for the whole house to use. Metal straws are great because you can even buy retractable ones that you can travel with! You just want to make sure you're being mindful of how you are treating earth and how we can make better changes for future generations.

  • Pool time! Our family loves the pool, so we have an @ecosmarte pool, which uses copper to clean rather than using chlorine or salt water. This eliminates having to use chlorine shampoos which damages the earth from its chemicals to the plastic that it contains. Our ecosmarte pool is one big machine that filters and cleans the pool all on its own. Some other benefits is that it can also help reduce skin and eye irritation.

Green necessities

  • Feminine products are something we must pay more attention to and not only help the planet but our bodies. Tampons usually contain chlorine and different types of dyes in order to be more absorbent. But that can be harmful to you as well… I use @natracare which is 100% cotton and doesn't even use an applicator! If you must have one they do make cardboard applicators.

  • Being eco-friendly doesn’t just stop in the kitchen… it goes throughout the house which means our toothbrushes! According to @bambrush, it can take up to 400 YEARS for a regular plastic toothbrush to decompose! Come on guys that's insane… we all use bamboo toothbrushes which are much safer for the environment and our own health!

We only have one planet… so lets do everything we can to save it! Even if that means making the smallest changes to your daily essentials such as the tooth brush that you use to no longer use plastic and foil to save food! These changes won't happen overnight, but just acknowledging and wanting to make a change is a great start!
